Having left school in 1980, Chris began his career in Civil Engineering with local firm Brims &Co. Ltd. at the age of 16. He worked on many building and civil engineering projects as a site engineer whilst studying his ONC and subsequently BSc Degree in Civil Engineering at Sunderland Polytechnic.

In 1985 his particular association with blacktop surfacing began when he joined Reay Roads Ltd. as a surfacing supervisor.
His civil engineering experience enabled him to be involved in the management of 3 of the most prestigious projects being developed in the region during the 80’s, namely Nissan, The Metro Centre and A69 Horsley to Corbridge dualling.

Further experience was gained as a Surfacing Manager during a brief spell with Sillars Road Construction before he joined Northumbrian Roads as a Technical Director in 1990.
Chris was promoted to Managing Director in 2000 and takes full responsibility for all the company’s activities today.

He is currently a member of CECA (North East) management board and is well known throughout the local surfacing industry.
